Helensville Railway Station
SCROLL DOWN TO READ ABOUT OUR EXCITING MUSEUM BUILDING PROJECT

We are Building a new Railway Museum. CONSTRUCTION HAS BEGUN. SEE GALLERY
The Project. Presently the railway station building (which dates back to
1881), houses tenants compromising a Café, Gift Shop, Florist and Art Gallery.
A small room is used as a facility to display various items of railway
memorabilia related to the historic railway activities that took place in Helensville.
The Trust has been gifted a large working railway model which has been
constructed by Mr. Ross Hughes of Auckland. This model depicts the railway
station and its environs including many heritage buildings as they were in the
1950s and 1960s and as such is a true and accurate replica of this historic
era. All items of this model have been constructed by hand by Mr. Hughes over
many years and it is his wish that it be made available for public display.
The Trust wishes to construct a new building to house this model and also in
which to house our historical collection of railway artifacts and information.
The present room in the station, used for this display, is not big enough to
house all of our collection including the Ross Hughes model and moving the
collections to a new purpose built building will enable the existing room to be
tenanted thus enhancing our income to allow us to continue to maintain the
property to the highest of standards for the furtherance of the heritage
aspects of our charitable purposes.
We need for the new building because we do not have adequate space to display
our present railway heritage collection with the addition of the Ross Hughes
model. The model is quite unique as it specifically models New Zealand Railways
equipment, rolling stock, buildings, as well as local heritage buildings many
of which no longer exist.
The new building is located at the southern end of our property. Total-Span
have been contracted to build a heritage style building on the site and we need
over $100,000 to complete the project. So far we have risen over $60,000.
